An alert from the App-écho never comes out of nowhere. It is the last link of a chain that starts on your animals and ends in your pocket.

BEN, a livestock guardian dog, has shown over the past roughly 30 minutes a sequence of unusually large and rapid movements (up to 191 m between positions, 102 m descent elevation change), interspersed with stationary phases. These movements during late night correspond to activity well beyond his typical pattern. Four wolf attack reports have been recorded within approximately 1 km radius, the most recent roughly 13 hours ago. The rest of the herd (sheep, goats, other guardian dogs) remains at rest. These concordant signals – defensive behaviour of the guardian dog in response to nearby predation threat – warrant alerting the herder.

What the App-écho watches over for you

What the App-écho changes is not sparing you the trip, it is telling you when to go, and what you will find when you get there.
Punctual Geo-Zone crossing
You can draw virtual zones around your pastures to be alerted in case of crossing. These zones are called punctual Geo-Zones. As soon as an equipped animal leaves its zone, you receive an alert on your smartphone. To avoid false alerts linked to GNSS signal imprecision, écho requires the animal to be detected more than 20 metres beyond the limit and on 2 consecutive measurements before triggering the alert. Ideal to secure a park, an alpine pasture, or a parcel rented for the day.

Incursion into an exclusion Geo-Zone
Neighbourhood issues, cliff, roadside, prohibited zone: you can also draw zones that your animals must not cross. They are called exclusion Geo-Zones. The principle is reversed. As soon as an animal enters the zone, you are alerted. To validate the incursion, écho applies the same reliability rule: the animal must be detected more than 20 metres inside, on 2 consecutive measurements. You intervene before the accident or conflict.

Collective extraordinary activity
Some of our devices detect the activity intensity of each animal and classify it into 4 levels: rest, normal, extraordinary, at risk. An extraordinary activity alone triggers no alert: an animal that starts running is normal. But if the whole herd moves into extraordinary activity at the same time, at night, then something is wrong. You create an animal group, define a time range, and configure the threshold: if 50% of the group enters extraordinary state during the range, écho triggers the collective alert. Panic movement, intruder presence, nocturnal disturbance: you know it immediately.

At-risk activity, the SPE system
This is the most advanced system in écho, called SPE : Severity × Probability × Exposure. Instead of looking only at activity intensity, SPE analyses the animal in its real context. For each animal entering extraordinary activity, a supercomputer examines 41 parameters simultaneously: weather, time, position, habitual behaviour, distance to herd, known predator presence, alpine pasture type, and many more. In case of anomaly, you receive an at-risk activity alert. SPE detects things imperceptible to the naked eye, sometimes several minutes before a farmer on site notices.

Sharing reminder
An Official Geo-Zone protects no one until it is shared. Once sent, it appears on the public maps hikers consult before setting off: they see the zone, the warning Danger, livestock guardian dogs, and take another path. But forgetting that sharing on a day of climbing to the alpine pasture is enough for the zone to stay invisible. The App-écho watches for you: if an Official Geo-Zone or Official Sub Geo-Zone has not been shared with the authorities, you receive a reminder. You avoid the incident, your dogs stay calm, and the cantonal administration has proof of your signalling.

Equipment theft
Electric fence units, mobile troughs, trailers, alpine pasture gear: this costly equipment disappears every year on the high pastures. To protect it, the App-écho fits it with a tracker featuring an embedded accelerometer. As long as the equipment stays in place, the accelerometer sleeps in very low power mode. At the slightest abnormal movement, tipping, displacement or sustained shock, the tracker wakes up, transmits its position and triggers an alert. You follow in real time on the map where your equipment is. With the position history and the authorities, you recover what belongs to you.
